May 4, 2011, GENEVA: In early April, Quadra Commodities participated in the Sailors’ Society Asian Challenge, climbing Mount Kinabalu in Borneo. The event was organised to raise awareness and funds for the Sailors Society, an international charity that provides a personal lifeline for seafarers throughout the world.

The Sailors’ Society exists to enrich and enhance the well-being of the world's 1.2 million seafarers, they carry out their work through a network of Port Chaplains and Seafarers' Centres across the globe. The Sailors' Society aim is to replace isolation with belonging by offering practical help and emotional support for both current and retired seafarers and their families.

This tough, demanding but exciting Charity event saw 40 teams of three people from across the global shipping industry take on the task of climbing Mount Kinabalu in Borneo (4,095m). The event was a resounding success despite very difficult conditions which saw unseasonal driving rain make the climb even more difficult. Notwithstanding this the Quadra team managed to place 16th overall and exceed our sponsorship target for the event.

"We greatly appreciate all of your efforts in the lead up to the event; the training you completed, your fundraising and your endurance in undertaking the challenge itself. The event was a massive physical undertaking and we hope that you were not too sore as a result" commented Jo Rich events fundraiser for the Sailors’ Society.

This inaugural event raised over USD$600,000 for the Society and planning has already commenced for the second Mt Kinabalu Challenge to be held in 2013. As supporters of the Sailors’ Society and our merchant seafarers we encourage all our colleagues and peers to consider making a financial pledge to assist the Sailors’ Society in their great work. The Societies donation details are mentioned below.
